I'm trying to scan 8X10 transparencies with my Epson 4990. Alhough the specifications claim that this scanner can scan up to an 8X10 sheet of film, I can only get an area of about 6X8 inches with it. Am I missing something? Have any of you used it to scan 8X10 transparencies, and do you get the full sheet of film? Thanks!

yes

Are you using the Epson Software

Make sure to set: Document Setting Film (with Film Area Guide) NOT "with Film Holder" then the Document Size should show up as 8x10

Sure, don't use the film holder, but the film mask and lay the film direct on the glass.

Is the 4990 capable of scanning an entire 8x10 negative? That is, will it scan to the edge the negative's full border, or will it crop into the live image area?

One more question- can you use the digital Ice feature when scanning an 8X10? On my scanner, it doesn't seem to work with it.

Are you saying that you can't turn it on or it isn't effective? Are you scanning 8 bit or 16 bit?

FWIW I just read somewhere that this digital Ice feature only works with reflective material. I think this applies to Microtek as well as Epson.

By laying the piece of film on a sheet of glass are we not looking at the potential for those dreaded newton rings?
