View Full Version : PROTO120A - I was bored, so I did a thing
Had some free time on my hands, and some scrap materials in the shop...so I hobbled together a 4x5 Point & Shoot.
Built around the Schneider 120mm/5.6 MC lens, it offers a 179mm image circle which adequately covers 4x5. The camera body is made from teak, and some mahogany.

Some very tidy looking "hobbling" going on there....

It is fixed focus then? Is it set up for infinity or a bit shorter for hyper-focal?

It's currently set-up at infinity. Depending on the f-stop, near field is as close as 4-meters.

Very impressive carpentry! love it.
I took this shot the other day....On tripod, Acros 100, Dev-D76. 120mm, f/32
The pic appears sharp corner-to-corner. The lens also seems to be perfectly parallel to the film plane.
Can't find much fault with the Schneider 120/5.6
Been thinking about positioning the lens at hyperfocal distance for f/16, but not much to be gained in DOF, so why bother?
If I had to change anything about the camera design, I would have loaded the film from the right side....although I'm not sure how I feel about having the shutter on the left.

Great job, and nice looking wood - I love cams made from teak
would not look bad in the DIY section too

Teak is a lovely wood to work with. As is rosewood, which I plan to use for my next camera build.
