Horseman 45FA best starter lens??

Hello all

I have decided my first 4x5 camera will be a horseman 45AF

After doing some reading I landed on a 150mm as a good starting point.

I mainly shoot environment and portraits

Would anyone recommend a good 150mm? Or point me in the direction where I can have a read?

150mm is a good choice with which to begin. Go with it and don't waste time reading and thinking. Now is the time to look for a 150 lens and there are many from which to choose. If the shutter is working correctly you can not go wrong with any lens made in the last 25 years. Don't be concerned with getting the latest "best" lens. Start having fun while you are enthused.

I think most 150mm lenses will fit the 8cmx8cm lensboards. The Horseman/Topcor 150mm lens is very nice if you can find one. Otherwise, any of the other major manufacturers lenses should be fine.

I found a Super Topcor 5.6 with a seiko shutter??

Pretty good price.


Thoughts? I have never heard of these lenses

Some versions of the Super 150 show the image circle dimensions on the lens barrel. In that case 160mm image circle is for 6x9cm format, but will work on 4x5 without movements. However, are probably better off with the LF version which has a 210mm image circle (see lens in post #3).

Schneider-Kreuznach G-Claron 1:9/150 - can be stored IN the camera. Also Rodenstock Geronar 1:6.3/150.

After filing the focusing rail a little bit, you can store the 46mm filter thread lenses.too. eg. Fujinon W 1:5.6/135, Fujinon A 1:9/180, Fujinon NW 1:5.6/105 or 125

I assume 45 AF is actually 45 FA

As Ic Racer, my Horseman VH-R has a TOPCON 150mm Super with 160mm dot on side of lens and matching cam

Horseman can be difficult to research
