A question for the experts..
I have this beautiful petzval lens.
A bit of a mystery lens..
It is clearly marked “W. Hermann” Berlin.
I have had no luck finding out anything about this guy…
But then I looked closely on the glass, and on one of the back glass a very clear writing says “Berthiot”.

A French maker as far as I know.
So could the lens be a rebranded “Berthier” lens, and Hermann “just” a retailer?
Curious to know.
(Ca 350mm F4,5)
(scared lighter for size.. :) )

Just off to a Grand daughter’s birthday - but yes there is a French Berthier. “Cie” is French isn’t it? More later.

French maker of lens and French retailer with sales outlet in Berlin. Remember there is a “Krauss” in Paris as well. And Dallmeyer is hardly a typical English name, either!

LATER!

Google search using hermann et Cie Paris does give results. Not a maker of lenses but a maker of CdeV etc.
Must have had a Berlin studio as well.
