She might be close friends of someone in the photo industry in Europe.
Comment about XTOL in Adox / Lina Bessonova video (https://www.photrio.com/forum/threads/comment-about-xtol-in-adox-lina-bessonova-video.179546/#post-2345043)
and that link leads to an endless argument I won't read
Too many filmos just argue about everything
sad
many here have close contacts in industry

No negative comment, but maybe her artwork can't support a darkroom like that and a significant other can help support. My wife supported me for many years while I was making less than minimum wage.
In fact, as I mentioned my 8x10 Durst was $500, but I was so stressed out about their asking price as I was unemployed when I got it. Had to get the check to pay for it from my wife who was working at the time.
maybe Lina has her own $$$

Yes, perhaps. When I graduated from my MFA, for which I had a Teaching Associatship providing full tuition and $1200 a month, I had saved up almost $1500 by the time I graduated.
What is your point, that has nothing to do with anything

They actually got married in Monaco, back in november. Lina was already very successful before she got engaged with Mirko.

Maybe I was not so clear, I am agreeing with you; I am also very envious of her work, darkroom and cool videos. I only wish I was that talented when I finished graduate school. I have been following here videos since the one about installing her big enlarger.

I was just amazed no one got hurt moving a 3,000 pound enlarger into the darkroom!
She seems to have a nice nature - I messaged her once on Instagram to reply to something she was writing on. She came back with a nice response. She seems to have good knowledge of what she’s doing, which is not the case with all of those on social media who have only come to film recently. It’s great that people like her are promoting film photography in an engaging way and relevant for those (certainly) younger than myself. It can only benefit all of us who enjoy this art. Good for her - she’s even managed to fall in love with someone who shares her passion.

exactly!

Many years ago I had to dismantle a very large enlarger. Memory of its brand name I can't remember. Weight can easily be dealt with by using leverage and an extra set of hands. As I remember dealing with tension coils and flat spiral springs in retractable spools were the things that one usually got hurt from if one didn't totally respect their potential power if or when released.
Here an interview with her by Ilford.

I hope to be 57 next September.
My 14 year old niece will make her first LF image in a few days.
She has shot 35mm on a tripod with a cable release before.
The image she made has a weight that will live with her for her life :(
I am surprised myself at the respect she has for the traditional process.
Lina Bessonova is showing the magic to girls and boys like my niece.
"More power to her" as they say :)

You bet! I learned long ago not to underestimate anyone. I've been following Ms Bessanova for some time. I remember her finding that enormous enlarger, most people would have walked away. She rescued the beast. People think I'm nuts for accumulating sinks, old equipment. My wife is an artist, she's amazing. Absolutely more power to women and everyone!
Best Regards Mike

I forgot. My great niece is going to be a freshman in high school this autumn. I gave her a Canon Powershot camera. She's using it constantly, she has a phone but she really digs the camera.

Here's a link to an interesting podcast from Silvergrain Classics with Mirko Böddecker and Lina Bessonova. Mirko runs Photo Impex and Adox. He and Lena are married, and there is a long discussion of Adox and the trials and tribulations of the analogue photo industry. Compelling stuff.

Side note, completely unrelated to the totally shocking idea that a photographer might associate with someone in the photography industry-- the inventor of the BMI scale specifically stated that it should not be used to evaluate individuals, but only populations.

Her social media presence is great for analog. I wish more of the EU products were available in the US. You can get Adox stuff but always at a premium so it's hard to justify. Their new XTol clone looks great, but you can't really get it here.

I don't know. The show reeks Mirko hype. Well, at least it's a film show.

Young folks passionate to carry forward the film and darkroom based traditions of us old fogeys will also be much more adept (than us) at passing our baton to a younger generation. For this we should be thankful!

'We' old people are just part of a long line of image makers
All 'founders' are long gone
Some forget how WE started
I with 40's mInox (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minox#Technical_details_of_Minox_8%C3%9711_cameras) and a father who denied my buying an enlarger of any kind, 8×11 mm contact prints are worthless. Somebody gave me the camera, 1958.
Most likely I was actually trying to SEE, as I got my first glasses after that. Age 7, glasses made everything comprehensible and not miracle magic, as I could now read the chalkboard
for the record, father is not forgiven, he continued to...
