Greetings from Finland!

I'm looking for original bellows for my Phillips 8x10" camera. Are the originals made of silk? Do you know where to look?
The bellows will last a while longer in use but light is slowly starting to leak from the corners(pinholes).

Thanks if you can help.

Br,

Marko

I recommend Custom Bellows in the UK.
You would need to send them your old bellows, complete with the frames.
They may or may not have made the originals.
They make excellent bellows, and have great customer service.

Hi Dugan,

yes I know the place and I've also used them for other projects.

The original bellows fot the Phillips cameras were made by Custom Bellows in the UK.I checked with Dick Phillips about this today. He replied that most, but not all, came from Camera Bellows (now Custom Bellows). A small number were sourced from Western Bellows in the U.S. Marko's camera's serial number is higher than my Compact II, and I suspect his bellows are of British origin.

You would need to send them your old bellows, complete with the frames...Dick concurs with this approach. He indicated that it's screws which hold front and rear frames to the camera's standards. The black material is not an adhesive, but a sealant, likely silicone.

Dick had a jig to position bellows to the front standard, since they arrived with small variations from front to back frames. He expects that Marko will have to do some educated guessing to do this, but will probably come close.

Ditto. My recent enlarger bellows from Custom Bellows UK certainly resembles the same bellows material on my own Phillips 8x10.

Custom Bellows asked me to send bellow with frames. Looks like it's not worth sending anything to England now...

I will send measurements and hope it works.

Thanks for all the answers!

I've just had a new set of bellows made by Custom Bellows (less than a week - though they may have had a set in stock I suppose). I noticed that they have a EORI number meaning that they are registered for post-Brexit import/export, so I'd contact them and ask their advice regarding the best way to ship and deal with new rules. I assume that you will have to pay vat on import but this should make no substantial difference to cost.

England is shut down. I just checked on an order I have with Custom Bellows and was told they are shut down.

Yes we are in our 3rd national lockdown, & its unlikely to end until mid February at the earliest, & it may well be in place until Easter. The governments target is to have all the people over 50, along with younger people at risk, inoculated with the 1st dose of the C19 vaccine by the end of March.
