I have a 4x5 Sinar F1 and have located a Sinar 5x7 P2 rear frame and glass carrier.

Before buying I want to be sure the P2 frame will attach to my F1 rail carrier. There seem to be only four screws that attach the frame (top part) to the rail carrier (bottom part).

Would anyone know if they are compatible?

They are not compatible. You need a P or P2 rear standard bearer to attach the 5X7 frame to.

Thanks QCC.

Is a 5x7 P or P2 back (glass carrier) compatible with an F series 5x7 rear standard?

Ron

The short answer is yes, however finding a 5X7 F series rear standard is going to be exceedingly difficult and if you find one, the 5X7 ground glass back should be with it. Sinar really intended for format changing to be done around a P type rear standard bearer.

Ron,

I agree with everything QCC has said. While I have seen the occasional entire 5X7 F1 for sale, the price was high compared even to the 8X10. I have never seen just the rear standard for sale.

Another option is to use a Norma 5X7 rear standard. The bellows is the same as the P or F version. You do not get the DOF calculator or the two-point focussing feature. It worked for me, though.

Ron,

A 5x7 F2 Back and standard sold on ebay yesterday:

This is what you would need.

I just realized the auction was for the frame and standard with no back.
