I've got new Provia 100, Tmax 100 & 400, Ektachrome E100, and Velvia 50 in 4x5. What is recommended for freezing for each type?. These films have an expiring dates of from 7 to 16 months. Thanks.

I am currently using films as old as 2011-2013 that have been in a zip-lock bag with a silicon desiccant packet and stored frozen for the entirety of their life. You cannot tell the difference between these sheets and the newer stuff I have (stored similarly) in development as recently as last week. I use both provia and velvia in 4x5 and 8x10 sizes.

I don’t think there’s any special precautions. Just put the boxes in the freezer flat (not vertical) without anything heavy on top that could crush them.

I’d not bag the boxes as you’re bringing humid air into the freezer and it may create ice. Don’t vacuum seal as it creates a force on the boxes that can deform them and doesn’t really have any benefit relative to a sealed box.

Other than that, freeze away.
