I have a 360mm Tele-Xenar in a compound shutter that has major speed problems. I have sent email to Carrol at Flutot's Repair, but no response. I am aware the lose of her husband and she may not want a contact at this time. Any other repair recommendations for this shutter or is there a direct, more modern shutter replacement for my lens? I really love this lens on my Pacemaker 4x5 or I would not go to all this trouble. Thanks!

Jimbo, if your camera is a Speed Graphic -- it could be a Crown -- why don't you use the focal plane shutter?

No there is not a more modern shutter that is a direct fit. As I recall The 360 mm Tele-Xenar was in a No. 3 Compound. Unfortunately the No. 3 Copal and the No. 3 Compur shutters did replicate the No. 3 Compound's dimensions. In later years the 360 Tele-Xenar was available in a No. 3 Copal (and maybe a No. 3 Compur).

I did find a series of photos on flickr illustrating cleaning a compound shutter. Might not hurt to contact that person for help.
