Hello.

I recently purchased a (used) Toyo 45a, and it seems to be jammed closed. The baseboard release button is missing. I've tried using a pencil eraser to press where the button should be with no luck. I've done some additional fiddling, but I'm worried I'll break something. Any insights on how that button works? I'm thinking I could insert a paperclip somewhere and loosen something, but I don't want to tear the bellows fishing around...

I'm a newbie to all things 4x5. Thanks for any/all help!

Andrea

First, make sure the back tilt knobs are loosened. If they are tightened, the camera will not open.
The button presses down on this spring clip at the top: https://i.postimg.cc/L4jj5Gbc/Toyo45-AR-01.jpg

The clip is not accessible when the camera is closed. It is quite strong, so a pencil eraser will not work. Use a thin metal rod, like a screwdriver to see if you can press on the clip, while opening the camera at the same time. You may need a third hand.

Send me a message and I may be able to help if you want to buy a replacement button.

Thanks Kumar! With my husband's help I was able to depress the spring clip and open the camera. Phew!

Thanks again,
Andrea
