I wanted to post a quick update to say that I’ve now added new wet plate holders to my shop. Currently, I have listed a range of standard sized holders, but am more than happy to discuss any custom sizes required. I design/print all of the holders myself, so ensure consistent quality throughout.

206164

206165

206166

All of my holders use the same magnetic lid and retained dark slide design. This simplifies their overall design, and usage, and also keeps their thickness down to 11-13mm (depending on model), so should fit under any ground glass.

Steve, is there a typo below copied from your website,

5×7″ Wet plate holder, with integrated dark slide and magnetic lid.

Dimensions

External dimensions (mm) – 214x150x13

Weight – 130g

Maximum Plate size (mm) – 173x128x3

Shoud be 178mm for 7"?

But what material are they made of?? If 3D printed, PLA should be avoided because it deforms too easily in warm conditions. I hope you're not using PLA.

Thanks for your patience, and your order. I've got a case open with my ISP to upgrade the backend of my hosting which should resolve the performance issues.

Apologies, that is a typo so thanks for spotting it. The size currently shown is the area that will be exposed.

Got a 5X7 Wet Plate holder from Chroma Camera today

I like the captive dark slide, the all plastic materials, the 2 magnet loading side cover

Should be easy to clean, if done asap, as shown by my teachers

I really like the very simple design, but will need to get Exact 5x7 tins or glass plates to use it

I have 200 under sized 5X7 glass plates that fall through...:(

My mistake, as I ordered the too small glass 6 years ago for dry plate emulsions, not knowing plate sizes, they do fit my old wood dry plate holders

I can also cut my glass to fit 4X5 or smaller and will

Today I email my source for a new quote

Tonight I will check clearances with very old NOS 5X7 dry plates and shoot one to check light fastness

Shot one dry plate in my new to me Chroma Camera WET Plate holder

I really like the new holder. It works very well

It does need plate dimensions very close to 5X7

My existing plates are 4.95 X 6.95" and are too loose with a side always falling in

I ordered those 6 years ago for a Dry Plate project

Here is a LFPF link to the DRY PLATE image

Hi Randy,

Thanks a lot for your feedback, I’m really glad you like your new holder. I’ve just looked at your result in the other thread, that’s fantastic, especially for such old plates!

It’s a shame about your old plates not fitting properly. If you want, I can draw up a custom sized version of my holder to fit them.

Cheers
Steve

Hi Steve,

No I don't want a custom size plate holder

I think it's a mistake to make MORE sizes

I will cut mine down to traditional 4X5 and to fit Mamiya RB holders, getting 2 plates from one!

Soon I will order a 4X5 from you

No problem Randy, that sounds like a good idea to get two sizes out of one plate.

I just read the update email about your camera factory

Carry on regardless!

and I have a design variation on 4X5/2X3 wet plate holders you may consider, I know I want it

I think a ridge that is just like the one on GRAFLOC Grafmatics (http://www.paulewins.com/old_site/resources/graflok.htm) would allow your holder to be used on more cameras, especially rangefinder 4X5 and 2x3, but also fixed distance cameras such as a Polaroid Mini-portrait 452 which has a GRAFLOC back

I don't think the mod would affect the holders in any camera, but that's your job

look at what can be done with a Polaroid Mini-portrait 452 with Graflok back here https://petapixel.com/2019/03/23/wet-plate-collodion-passport-photos-with-a-polaroid-miniportrait-camera/

I got a 452 yesterday shot a test FP-100c45 will be using Gramatics and perhaps your holder

Thanks for the feedback Randy. I don't currently offer a 2x3 holder, but I do 4x5 rangefinder compatible holders for Graflex Series D;

https://chroma.camera/product/graflex-series-d-wet-plate-holder/

Is this what you mean about ridges on the sides?

Those Mini Portrait wet plates are fantastic too. They're certainly interesting cameras.

Steve, yes the Grafloc needs 'ridges' just like the Graflex

They are both 4X5 fiim size, but externally Graflex is 1/4" wider and has a locking slot where modern Grafloc has a locking ridge

A Graflex back will not fit on a Grafloc camera

I suggest making 2-1/4 X 3-1/4 Wet Plate holders as they will fit many cameras, some enlarge Wet Plate however way more scan/copy their plates for online sharing

Mamiya RB is my example, a 6X8 cm Roll film holder with Grafloc 'ledges' and Mamiya sheet or plate holder with film sheaths. Dry plates good! Wet Plate would be a mistake...

However look at the ridges on the 23 Grafmatic, the RB Roll film holder and the DDS 2-1/X 3-1/4 holder, which all fit any camera using that design
