This is new for me. Just picked up an 18" Verito that is mounted to a board with 2 flanges. The inner one belongs to the Verito.
Is this common?

I guess if the larger one is for a lens in barrel that does not protrude past the flange.

Well there's an idea I would never have thought of!

I'm guessing that's a Depression-era money-saving idea.
Clever, too!
Lens boards don't grow on trees, ya know! :)

Is it wrong of me to consider mounting that flange to the back of a Chamonix board to do the exact same thing? I have an 18" Beseler opaque projector lens mounted to a Chamonix board that doesn't protrude past the flange. I imagine the only loss would be the reduction of light through the slightly smaller hole in the Verito flange when using the Beseler lens.
