Imagon Predecessor from 1891

I ran across this diffusion concept in the 1891 issue of Photographic Mosaics. It appears to be similar in approach but not identical to the Imagon design that appeared some 30 years later. Perhaps a way to convert Waterhouse stop Rapid Rectilinear lenses for soft focus effects.

I've shot a lot with my Imagons and really like the quality. That said, I shoot them wide open with no holy slide.
