I have obtained a lovely 8 3/4 inch Verito in barrel but alas the aperture blades are completely missing. Is it feasible to cut a slot and use Waterhouse stops for a range of stops from F4 to F8 or should I just use the lens at F4 only? (I have a machinist friend who can bore a variety of hole sizes for me). I have another Verito 8 3/4 with aperture and find I use only stops F4 through F8 to get the diffusion I want.

The other option is these will fit stardard Betax shutters with their extension barrels on the elements (or at least mine with the studio shutter fit a Betax #4), but you have to check... And then there's a aperture scale, but not hard for a couple of stops...

Here are the aperture sizes if you decide to go the shutter route.

Steve I have a Betax 4 and Alphax 4 but the lens barrel on my Verito is female and will not thread to shutter. My other Verito is male and screws in with perfect spacing.
Lab rat thanks for the sizes!

Actually, I read that here some years ago, and some combination worked when I "borrowed" the Betax #4 from a TR 15" I had, but strangely enough, the Studio shutter on my Verito works well, but despite the weird iris, I actually like using it for my longer exposure still life work, so the shutters stay on their lenses...

I have been using f8 a lot more with mine, as it's slightly sharp, but with a creamy smoothness that looks very 1920's...

Have fun!!!

I discovered that if I removed the aperture ring from the barrel behind it is a slot that would accommodate a Waterhouse stop. I drilled holes in old dark slide material for f5.6 f6.3 f8 and they work fine. A great lens put back in use.
