This is Hanna

That has a very strange feeling to it. The look is rich and sumptuous. The gaze and the posture, on the other hand, make her seem subjugated or even abused.

I'm trying to post more photos as I haven't shared much in the past. Today, I was refused. "Upload Failed". It is a 180K JPEG. It doesn't explain failure. Did IT not like the image?

Thanks for the tips. --ew--

Made in January, but here it is February. 1951 Deardorff 8x10 w/ 360mm/6.3 Fujinon W S on FP4 with #12 gel. Focus is a bit soft as my subjects were not as still as instructed. Image is cropped.

My question above, #5, must have been a bad moment for the 'system', as today it works.

Emil, that's just lovely. You've got the focus perfect too. Tell me, what kind if exposure times are you getting with the paper neg? I've made some portraits of my wife in low light that were around 6 seconds on film, but beyond that it becomes more challenging. Perhaps you are using some lights. Best, -R

I can’t really decide if I care for the composition but it is definitely a nice break from sad looking sitters staring into the lens.

A portrait I made this afternoon, using my B&J Watson with a new 10" Kodak Anastigmat f4.5 to test. (I suspect this is a reprography lens, since its just a barrel, sans shutter) This is a wet plate collodion glass negative. Exposure was 14 seconds at f4.5

Paul, this is fine. I find so little portraiture that truly harmonizes subject and setting, perhaps because it is so difficult. It is my path as well, though I work strictly in film. 14 seconds and no apparent trace of movement -- that's also impressive, and encouraging!

Thank you very much Philip, I appreciate that. I do find portraiture difficult because (in part) juggling the technical issues AND the interaction aspect is very challenging for me. Some people seem to make it look simple, but it isn't simple for me. I guess I didn't make it any easier on myself by choosing to make a wet plate negative that took 14 seconds to expose!

Jason Lane Dry Plate, 2 ASA, on a Ihagee Patent Duplex 720; Meyer Görlitz Doppel-Anastigmat Veraplan f4.5 / 135mm lens. Developed in HC110.

Even with a 2 ASA dry plate and without tripod, I managed to take this focused picture with the camera on my lap; as far as I remember, f4.5 and 1/4s.

It drives me nuts where you cut their feet off. It feels like you either need to step back a couple feet or step in several.
