Precision Camera Works is moving to California [UPDATE: now Texas]

Many folks here have called on Bob Watkins for service of large and medium format equipment. Just a heads-up that Bob is moving his shop to Fairfield, California, northeast of San Francisco - there's a notice on his home page as follows:

Hello everyone!

As some of you may have already heard, Bob and Precision Camera Works is moving to California. After a number of delays we finally have our new address to share! We are sorry that our official notice is so close to our actual moving date, but Bob’s recent surprise need for surgery left a lot, including the date, hard to pin down. Bob greatly appreciates the support and well wishes he’s received from those of you who were aware of his situation. He's doing very well, way ahead of the expected healing curve, and is in the process of packing to head out for warmer weather!

Our email addresses and phone number will not change. We expect the phones and internet connection to be active as of 12/26/19

We will complete as many repairs as we can before the move but some unfinished items will need to come with us to the new location.

Thanks Oren. I saw Bob 2-3 months ago and he mentioned he was moving. I didn't know he required surgery, but that certainly explains the delay. I wish him well, he is a treasure.

Interesting how many people I know are leaving California, or wanting to (my family is there, but I choose not to be), and Bob is moving in.
The weather is certainly a plus there.

That's something that puzzled me as well, considering he's running a business.

Bob told me that his girlfriend got a job in California and that he can operate his business just about anywhere as long as USPS, UPS, AND FEDEX can reach him. He seemed pretty excited to be leaving Illinois.

As we facilitate this final move, Bob will be away from his bench to pack up the shop beginning September 20th and has an expected re-opening date of October 5th. There will be no work completed during this time. He will be taking all in-progress work with him to the new shop.

We slightly overestimated our efficiency in making this move. We hope to have our new mailing address set up by October 4th to accept packages moving forward. Our new shipping address will still be a UPS locker a short distance from Bob’s residence.

NOTE: Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Bob cannot accept any in-person pickups or drop offs. You absolutely must ship your equipment to us, no exceptions.

Last time I looked a month or so ago Linhof still showed them as being in Skokie...
