Anyone use 5x7 x-ray film

Hello World!

Was wondering if the 5x7 x-ray film world was as troublesome as the normal 5x7 film world.
What with the issues between the same sized film holder holding an array of film sizes.
I am referring to 12x16.5cm, 5x7in and 13x18cm film all fitting into what is referred to as a5x7in film holder. But not into the same film holder

I guess my question is, if you shoot 5x7 x-ray film, what size inner dimension film holder do you use as well as what brand x-ray film do you use.

I am using Fuji double sided "5x7" that is available from Z&Z medical. It does not fit in standard 5x7 holders but it fits in 13x18 holders.

The previous remark is the only reason I don't use x-ray in 5x7. My holders are all standard, even the dry plate holder with septums. Cutting 13x18 downto fit is a PIA. So I only use x-ray in 8x10 and 5x12. I did use 7x17 but as i passed 85 I had to give up that wonderful format.

I have cut down 8x10 Fuji X-ray to both 4x5 and 5x7. PITA.

I cut down from 8x10. It isn't hard at all under a red light.

The biggest downside if xray film is that the emulsion is as soft as jello when wet. I develop with hangers and that solves everything.

I keep a tank filled with fix, make a batch of 1:7 D23 an hour ahead, and the middle tank is water. Around 10 min @ 70 degrees, constant agitation for 1 min, then 2 complete rise and tilts in opposite directions per min. One minute in the water, then fix. You have to be careful or the sheets pop out of the hangers so move slowly.

Chicago water is clean enough (!!!) that after washing I hang up the hangers to dry, one end hooked on a wire, with the film in them. The less touching the better!

I have both 5x7 tanks (10 hangers) and slim 8x10 tanks (4 hangers) with multiple sheet hangers, and prefer those.

I use 13x18, 18x24 and 18x43 (7x17") holders with Fuji film(s).
8x10" X-ray films can't be easily found here in Europe.

If you wish to go with green backing, your best bet is to get 7x17 and slice it to 3 sheets (around 16 cents each)....all for rather reasonable price. Essentially you'll get 300 sheets for the price of 25 of conventional film....such a deal. Sure, there is shipping too.....
