View Full Version : Copal 0 lens repair question - index ring turns?

I picked up a new (used) lens with a Copal 0 shutter. The lens runs fine at all speeds, but when you turn the silver cam ring to change shutter speeds, the black ring with the marked speeds follows it along. I don't see what is supposed to prevent the shutter speed ring from turning. It has a small detent on the back, but this doesn't appear to line up with anything. Just tightening the chrome lock ring in the middle doesn't hold it in place.

I've looked at some on line reassembly videos, which are quite good, but this step is skipped over.

Thanks for any help.

Kevin

I think you have the opposite problem from the one reported here:

https://www.largeformatphotography.info/forum/showthread.php?111193-Hard-to-turn-speed-on-Copal-1-shutter&highlight=Hard+turn+speed+copal+shutter

Go to post 6 for instructions on how to adjust the tension on the speed ring.

Let us know if this solves your problem.

Different issue. The scalloped lock ring, as he calls it, will stiffen things up, but if the chrome cam ring moves to change shutter speeds, the index ring with the numbers still moves with it. But thanks for the suggestion.

There should be a shaft that sticks up and engages a boss on the verso of the black area that holds it.
