I recently acquired a Kodak 2D. As I rehab this dirty but otherwise workable camera I am considering replacing the original GG. Should the frosted side be facing the lens or the photographer? I feel it should be the lens. But someone must know which way is correct.
Thanks

You're right. Frosted side faces the lens.

If there are no pencil lines on the groundglass you might consider in washing it in luke warm water with some dishwasher soap, and than rinse in a couple of times. After it is dry it might be improved.

Good luck,

Might want to check the focus before reversing the ground glass.

I sent my 8x20 Korona Panoramic View back to Richard Ritter as he was repairing the dark slides for the film holders and wanted to check the camera back. He found the ground glass was mounted with the ground side out, which may have been the practice at the time the camera was built (original ground glass?).

He did reverse it but had to shim it to account for the difference in focus position relative to film position.

Certainly saved me finding out with expensive film...

Good luck,

Len

Good point Len, I have a Premo 4X5 with OE GG mounted with the ground side towards the user and not facing the lens.
