View Full Version : Seal Jumbo 160 press question
In following another thread, I realized that the normal, resting position of the arm on my 160 Jumbo is not at 45º, but rather in the closed position. I acquired the press used and I'm at least the third owner--it came originally from a local college.
I have looked at the linkage and can't determine if there is anything missing, comparing it to photos and illustrations form an owner's manual for the Masterpiece model which looks almost identical
193350.
Does anyone have any insight into this? Should I just continue to use it as is or should I attempt to fix it?
Any help would be appreciated.

Can't tell from the pics and description.
But you should never store it closed.
do you have the foam pad under the platten ? If not, that *could* be the problem.

That's good to know. Thanks.
I wanted to adjust the platen pressure as described in the manual, but the arm won't stay at 45º.
I replaced the pad when I got it a few years ago as well as adjusted the thermostat (it was way off). The press will stay open when I put the arm all the way back (180º). I guess I will store it that way from now on.
It sounds like the pressure screws, (located on the top of the square-ish shaped cross member that ties into the lifting arms on each side of the press,) are out of adjustment. Loosen the outer collar, (ccw), a lot or remove it, then turn the inner knob counter clockwise about 10 turns, then replace the outer collar while holding the inner knob in place. You may have to hold the lifting handle up while doing this. If your press has two sets pressure adjustment screws do them both and try to keep both sides of the press handle equal in height at the correct angle for your press. Takes only a few mins. to get it dialed in.
