Yes, Tri Tran did start an earlier thread. (And a much better image) It does not display on my unified view but is under Image Sharing.
Please delete this thread.

Sorry

Well, here is my first portrait taken with an Intrepid 4x5 and a Fujinon W 180/5.6 on Ilford Ortho Plus. None of my kids or grandkids wanted to pose for me, so I had to. try a selfie, shooting with a long air pumping shutter release. Straight from the drier (bathroom hanging up) I do not have (and I don't like) Photoshop. I will probably go into Lightroom and clean the surroundings from dust or other stuff. I chose this film because it accentuates the details on the face (suitable for men, not women ;) )

Here is the set up and the first intent to shoot it. (I think I had a problem with the development and the tank allowed some light leak):

(I hope it is OK with the MODs to show the set up. I did try six shots and only two came out with the eyes out of focus. I chose the best I think I got). I hanged a car key from a string on the beam above to obtain the focus. Once I got the camera ready to shoot, I posed and put my eyes right on the key, and pull the key out of the frame. With the right hand, I pumped the shutter. I think I will try more like this to improve the composition.)

Looks very good. Did you use a strobe connected to the 203mm lens?

Pepeguitarra:
The lighting is a large window to the left, which was reflected off the white walls of the room. My main concern was getting the correct metering and developing to get the look I like. I have copal shutter so a strobes would work.

Lars, in the Ivy Patch
Wet Plate Collodion on aluminum, using a new Voigtlander petzval type lens. Not sure of its focal length or aperture size, but it doesn't quite cover 5x7, and its really fast (5 seconds exposure under heavy overcast)

Thank you, I think so too. The fall-off might be too much for some applications, but in this scenario I find it very appropriate: I’m fond of modest-to-strong vignetting in many of my images. I’m so glad this lens found it’s way into my hands! (Serendipitously a friend called me up and said “hey, I just got this brass lens you might be interested in”)

I do not know this person at all, but this feels like you really captured him. This strikes me as posed and at the same time relaxed. Nicely done.

Thank you very much. I find portraiture a challenge, so when I get it right (I often don't), its especially rewarding for me!
