Check Asian or Turkish supermarkets if you have any, or contact (online) stores that carry brewery, baking or food additives. Citric acid is an extremely commonly used additive in the food & beverages industry and shouldn't be very hard to find. Photography supply stores are about the last place to look for something like this, unless you want to pay inordinate amounts of money for supposedly 'pure' materials that in fact are completely equal to what you would buy elsewhere.

Although shipping to Canada may be prohibitively expensive, here's what a US-based textile company charges for citric acid: https://www.dharmatrading.com/chemicals/citric-acid-powder.html

I bought 30 lbs. on eBay for $70 USD including shipping. Spent another $5 at crappy tire for a big plastic bucket to hold it all.

$70 ?? that's cheap ! no probs shipping it ? the place Bob mentioned, sells 25kg for $225, which is not bad compared to photo chem places as mentioned up thread.

I also presume food grade citric acid doesn't make any diff for our purposes ?

Down here in Hobbiton any big food store has it in the Baking section. You could buy it from a Pharmacy, but will pay too much
