Caltar - S II 8 1/4" (210mm) lens . . . . coming soon from Ebay at a bargoon price. Will this lens cover 5x7? Anybody own one? Comments?

Hoping to use it as a semi-wide on my Gowland 5x7 Pocket View. Owner didn't know but I took a chance because of the price.

Thanks.

Reading up someone's opinion on this forum, the lens is quite sharp and has 294mm coverage....it should cover 5x7 with plenty (60mm ?) to spare.

Gordon, it is actually a rebranded Schneider Symmar-S MC

Here you have full specs of your lens https://www.schneideroptics.com/info/vintage_lens_data/large_format_lenses/symmar-s/data/1,5,6-210mm.html

I wouldn't call it a semi-wide lens though. 210mm was considered the 'normal' FL for 5x7, as it's very close to the diagonal of the negative. A superb optic nonetheless.

The 180 would be a short normal. A 150 would be a semi wide.

Thanks to one and all!

I have a 250 Fuji L, this lens, and a Nikkor 180-W so looks like I've got it all!
