I received today my Ilford HP5 11x44. The film will expire on 05/19.

Is that good or bad for you?

I tried to be neutral in my post.

The film will expired before the next delivery. It can be ordered only once in the year so it would make sense to overestimate consumption meaning that some film is programmed to go bad (yes, freezer but still). Because people are ordering large quantities then I would expect that most refresh product is provided.

It is a premium, in certain ways a flagship product. I believed that more care and respect is put into this product and one does not have to worry about such details. It makes me concerned.

I’d like to see a photo of the film holder for 11x44 film.

I assumed the 11X44 was a typo.

Excuse me, but I do use 14X36 X-Ray.

I buy 11X14 HP5 from https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/75425-REG/Ilford_1743225_HP5_Plus_11x14_25.html

It's almost always in stock.

Since B&W film is usually good as new for years after the expiration date...
I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Put it in a VERY wide freezer and shoot it.

If stored frozen, it shouldn't be a problem. But hp5+ does tends to produce quite some fog and lose speed as it ages, like any fast film. Freezing helps to keep the speed loss in check and also helps prevent some of the fog, although not all of it.

I've been slowly using up an old stock of 11x14 Tri-X, with use-by date of 1988 - which I'd "rediscovered" last year after it had been inadvertently stored in an attic that gets very hot during the summer months. Yes...a bit of base fog - but look:

It actually not much about worrying about my film but about Ilford.

Sure. It is almost perfect fit. I wish I could stack two 8x10 side by side but unfortunately not.

Shooting it is another matter because buying this film is part of my long term strategy to get into 11x14. So I do not have the camera yet. I plan to start thinking about after my 8x10 has arrived.

This looks nice. It is quite surprising that it looks this nice. Did you took any special measures? Is this what should be generally expected?

I did not know this. This is good to know.

I noticed that the price is now $200. I do not know what it was before but they claimed that there was reduction.

I have been shooting expired film for years. Everything on my website was shot on expired film. Now I shoot slow film which I guess does better long term. You just have to print through some extra density base / fog is all. My oldest film I'm shooting now is J&C 200 in 14x17 which expired in Feb 2006. I have a large freezer in my garage and it is full of expired film. If I ever shoot it all I'll go to FP-4 in 8x10 and special order 8x20 and 14x17.
