Is it possible to apply the silver nitrate the night before you make your prints and still get useful results or does it have to be applied the day of your printing?

If you apply the silver nitrate in the evening, and print the next morning you should have no problem. If you wait 24 hours +,I would expect some loss of sensitivity.

In salt prints there is a propensity to get "dark" staining, depending on the particular paper + chemistry. So the longer you keep it before exposure, greater are chances of a fogged print. I would do a test by processing an unexposed strip the night of preparation and compare with a strip next morning just to make sure. Check if the latter is unacceptably darker than the former or not. If not, you have a winner.
