My latest challenge is to master the use of this lens. I suspect there is quite a learning curve which might get a bit expensive in the 8x10 format. This lens has a serial number of 2303961 and is mounted in a big Zettor shutter shown partially open. I've never seen another one like this and suspect it is a custom engineered one-off. Does anyone know?

I've used the Mamiya 150mm SF lens, which has the same perforated rings. It's soft focus effect is best at near full openings. It does need so me testing, it's also dependent of the subject. You could test on 4x5" (reducing back).

Hi Maris

Very interesting.........................but apparently not a "one-off" as shown here:-

The Zettor is a well made shutter, which works better than some of the other similar shutters. Underneath the release arm is a partly concealed release cable thread. It is usually used as an "in front of the lens" shutter, but this may be a version where the flange is attached to the front casing - there must be a spacer to keep it clear of the selecter wheel. Or the owner has cut some threads in the casing.

Thanks for the link.

I copied, converted to PDF and printed to put in my Imagon 360 mm set. Good ideas are there. that I need to remember.

I have two Imagons and really enjoy them. I often shoot without the disks in. Have fun on your new journey.

Maris, can you show us a side and back view to see the mounting of the shutter?

Definitely not a one of, I've quite a few of them and I own one.

I've only seen one 48cm Imagon and it may be the only one out there.

Cheers,

Here is a side view of the Imagon 42cm mounted on the Zettor shutter. The connection from the lens to the shutter is via 4 stainless steel posts. The fit and finish of this connection is very precise and well done. The original lens board is on the left and I suspect it is from a Linhof Colour Kardan Triplex 8x10 camera. The 42 cm Imagon is uncommon but not exactly rare in barrel configuration but to find one professionally mounted on a shutter is a surprise. Could this have been done by Linhof themselves as a special order?

I've remounted the lens and shutter on a 141mm square board (with appropriate spacers) to get it onto my Tachihara 8x10. Mounting a lens that's bigger than the board it goes on is always an interesting challenge.

Yes, that's a Linhof Kardan Color lensboard. Fits 5X7 and 8x10. I have a few...

I use a Kardan Color. It can carry nearly any lens. I can't carry the camera!

The factory work on Linhof lens boards is very clean. Usually machined for mating without glue.
