Does anyone know where to purchase a photographer's Flash pan? Do you know if they sell reproductions of late 1800's camera lighting?

not sure if this is sending you on a wild goose chase, but star camera company (http://www.geocities.com/starcameracompany/) makes cameras from the wet plate and daguerrian era maybe they have what you are looking for, or will make one to order ?

I know that they were available in Japan very long after they had disappeared from every where else. I haven't been able , though, to discover who was the maker.

If you obtain and use one, please be very careful. There is a very good reason why they were superceded by the flashbulb (even though it was much easier to light up a very large area with powder rather than bulbs)..

Well, that depends on the bulb. Meggaflash makes bulbs so big one of them will light up a huge cave room for an open shutter exposure; three will light some of the largest open cavern spaces in the world. Burn time close to a second, screw base.

The biggest problem with flash powder these days is it's impossible to travel with and fairly difficult to even mix and store legally. Federally, it's considered an explosive. 'nuff said.

You can get those Meggaflash bulbs mentioned by Mr. Qualls and also modern flashpans, which are devices that hold multiples of flash bulbs at: flashbulbs.com

If you actually need an old fashioned looking flash powder pan, you might be better off just having one made by any fabricator. Good luck.
