At my local museum (Owls Head Transportation Museum), we had a visit from a guest lecturer from the Stanley Museum. The Stanley Steamer car and the state of Maine are what the museums have in common.

I learned this weekend that the Stanley brothers made a good fortune mass producing high quality dry plates, first in Maine, then in Mass before eventually selling out to Kodak, then starting the automobile company. We can sympathize with their tastes in invention, photography, music, and fast cars...

The Stanley Museum is in Kingfield ME which is only about 2 hours away. I will make a visit when they reopen in April. Here's a photo showing a patent illustration for their dry plate process from the lecture. Reminds me of the new55 project and some of the talented craftspeople here.

Very timely and informative. I have a NOS box of 1/4 Plate Stanley Plates as sold by Central Camera Chicago. Sensitometer 50, whatever that means.

I plan to compare them to the new J Lane plates and shoot both with identical exposure this week.
