View Full Version : January 2018 Portraits
Two images from my Cambo 4x5 with Schneider 210mm lens. Both at F/22, 1/30s using two strobes. I have a new 4x5 on order and am interested in testing some films. Mainly Portra 160.
I used my digital camera to verify light power.
This is on Ilford HP5 400 speed.

And Kodak Portra 160.

Rick, lovely colors on that Portra. How did you develop it, which C-41 kit did you use?
Here's a shot from late October that I only now got to properly scan:
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4680/24686780527_07b7300a0f.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/DBucM2)
Shot with the Omega View 45D & the Xenar 150mm/f5.6, on Fomapan 400. This was my first development with the Stearman Press SP-445 tank, and I didn't properly align the film in the holder, thus the developing marks. :o
I used the Unicolor C-41 kit in a Patterson tank. My 1st time with it and I was sure I screwed it up but they came out anyway. :-) I look forward to shooting a lot more Portra as well as Ilford HP5. I like the single light on your shot (gotta have shadows).

That is just lovely. Does every on this forum own a petzval? Dang! Or are you guys just passing one around to use. Amazing quality of these lenses.
I just got into shooting wet plate and here is my second wet plate:

My last shot of 2017. Processed in jan. Daughter in town in between semesters and I always try to get both of them together. Kodak 300mm Ektar, Vivitar 283 on a softbox about 2 feet on top of camera on a windy day, next time, I should just have no softbox. I had to butt the lightstand on the camera to keep it from falling. Sun just behind them (had to move them to cover the sun).

"Salome" (5x7 paper neg)
well...
Today I made a portrait of one of my students - "unfortunately" he closed his eyes so that's the first mistake..
But when I developed I noticed a strange thing: A half naked girl behind him..!
Realized it was of a young girl I have had as guest in Christmas time - photographed her, and forgot about this cassette....
BUT how lucky can one be?
I see Salome with John the Babtist's (beheaded )head - blood running from his nose - semi closed "dead" eyes... and a hint of vail...
THIs one is going to be printed BIG!!

It is, and on the matching dolly, it works well now that I have the studio space. My 'living' room.
It's the only setup that handles the 8X10 Linhof Kardan Color.
A camera so heavy I have to dismantle it to take it off the tripod.
