Tuco, that Siuslaw bridge photo is wonderful.
It evokes the moody (and soggy) atmosphere of our Pacific Northwest.

On a different note here's a small, quiet stone bridge in a small quiet town in France...

Another French town with a bridge.
This is a"bastide" city, the perimeter walls formed a sort of "fortress" in medieval times.

You are looking from outside the walls.
The bridge terminates at a defensible portal in the city walls.
As usual, years pass, raiding parties are subdued, and the economy improves.
Now the wealthy prefer to perch their houses outside where there's more room and a nicer view...

A glimpse of one of the world's most iconic bridges, the magnificent double cantilevered Firth of Forth bridge in Scotland. This view was from the North ferry landing at North Queensferry.

The Firth of Forth Bridge is a cantilever railway bridge across the Firth of Forth at Edinburgh. It's considered an iconic structure, a symbol of Scotland, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The 1890 bridge pioneered construction with steel; (its French contemporary, the Eiffel Tower, was built of wrought iron). Large amounts of steel became available after the invention of the Bessemer process, patented in 1856.

Yup, a dangerous wasteland

It is indeed a wasteland, a mere 1/4 mile from a large shopping mall...

I know the entire area very well from 1967

Wagner's working farm was not a playground (https://glenviewparks.org/facilities/historic-wagner-farm/)

Before Allstate, was all corn

Before 53 ended at Dundee

When Dundee road was 2 lane and empty

Before the Botanical Gardens, I saw them grow it all from scratch

Before the extension

Before the city became madness, https://blog.databid.com/blog/11-mega-developments-in-the-works-in-chicago

What mostly comes to mind in your bridge

I have seen too many homeless under a bridge

A lot has changed since 1967, some of it better than others.

As Paul Kantner & Jefferson Airplane proclaimed "Life is change, how it differs from the rocks" See how I sneaked in a large format reference? ROCKS!!

When I was photographing the Chicago River I had a lot of very positive interactions with homeless people. They were curious, respectful, and protective of me—a very interesting glimpse of a life I know almost nothing about and can't imagine.

I went back to Ohio
But my city was gone
There was no train station
There was no downtown
South Howard had disappeared
All my favorite places
My city had been pulled down
Reduced to parking spaces
Ay, oh, way to go, Ohio
Well, I went back to Ohio
But my family was gone
I stood on the back porch
There was nobody home
I was stunned and amazed
My childhood memories
Slowly swirled past
Like the wind through the trees
Ay, oh, way to go, Ohio
I went back to Ohio
But my pretty countryside
Had been paved down the middle
By a government that had no pride
The farms of Ohio
Had been replaced by shopping malls
And Muzak filled the air
From Seneca to Cuyahoga Falls
Said, ay, oh, way to go, Ohio

He said his grandfather was friend of the painter who painted a collection of the bridges in that area, including this one that he described as the "bridge over the Wissahickon Creek right across from Germantown Academy".
