Hello,

i recenly purchased a sironar 240mm with separation in the rear element, and was wondering if anyone has one of these elements lying around that I can buy from them. Thanks.

You might consider having John Van Stelton at Focal point recement it if there's nothing else wrong with it. Probably cost about $180, and you don't have to worry about a mis match.

The front and rear cells are matched at the factory before the lens is shipped. You can't mix and match cells and expect proper results.

"You can't mix and match cells and expect proper results."

Quality control must be really bad if this is the case - I find it hard to believe that the rear elements would not be interchangeable on the same model lens - what's involved in the "matching" process?

" I find it hard to believe that the rear elements would not be interchangeable on the same model lens"

The lens is not a 240mm. It is ±240mm and the front and rear cells are matched depending on what the actual focal length is.
