Here's a pic of my old lens. I cla'ed it a while ago. I hardly use it, but I think it's so old that it's not worth getting fixed again. Is there a direct replacement for this lens? Can I just unscrew this and put it in a sort of modern Alphax or something?

I would just replace the shutter with an identical one.

An Alphax #3 should be a direct replacement. See http://www.suaudeau.eu/memo/pratique/Les_obturateurs_centraux.html.

Edit: On second thought and after a question from koh303 (thanks for asking) I'm probably mistaken. Sorry to have misled. I'm nowhere near as sure that an Alphax #3 is a direct replacement for a Betax #3 before I posted. ericantonio, on Monday ask skgrimes.com what they know.
