Great images, Lachlan. First one Horseshoe Falls? I see why you like 7x17, it's a wonderful format for landscape.

Also like yours, Steve. Light and tonal range are superb.

This is very inspiring. I have been suppressing the desire to fabricate a back for my 8X10 camera so that I could use my one and only 8X15 film holder for either paper negs or Xray film. These are wonderful examples of the long format...

Question: is this thread only for those who own or have access to a 7x17 camera (1:2.43), which I suspect has an image size of 6.75 x 16.75 (1:2.48) OR can anyone be involved by offering images 'printed and/or scanned ' to the appropriate ratio?

The GK 240 sees use on both the 7x17 and 10x12. A fine lens. That 210 SA is a monster.

The Adox was from the first production run of CHS 100 II. I have another 50 sheets left. I love it. Looking forward to the next production run...

I've grown accustom to what Minimally Agitated negatives look like, then along comes this surprise. Almost no Photoshop sharpening of this Jpeg at all.

This image has the smoothest yet most striking tonalities I have ever seen from a Minimally Agitated negative.
The final Split Toned Silver Contact print looks more like a Photogravure than a Silver Gelatin print.

This is the same granite as seen in yesterday’s image of Hartford City Hall.

Thank you Tim for your kind words. It's is much more about how I design negatives in concert with how I Split Contrast print. In general terms, I give generous exposure with important values up on the straight line and to quote this past weekend's student your negatives are "disturbingly flat" Therefore I do not need a lot of "Contrast Killing Green Light" during the printing process.

Cheers, SS

The image as you see here is not possible without a Minimal Agitation Film processing technique.
Why ?? EMA forms of development have three major benefits, extended development time Maximizes film Speed.
In frequent agitation Maximizes Mid Tone contrast, aka Adjacency Effects and last, Extreme Highlight contrast is compressed due to extreme dilute developer in concert with in frequent agitation does not allow the highlight density to climb out of range.

Now thru the end of July use discount code 7/17 here and receive a $17.70 discount off my Premium Video on Minimal Agitation film developing techniques.

Stunning Steve

Thanks to all the talented Panoramic Film shooters who participated this 7/17 month as well as all the admirers who took time to comment, the prep of images evoked such terrific memories of friendship and the creation of images.
My hope was for 60 images and 5000 views, I believe we far surpassed those goals

Great composition, Lachlan. Most people attack it head-on, as I did, but this also works well.

This is the first photo i've made with my new to me 12x20 camera. It's fogged to heck. I had another go today and I've concluded that there's a light leak either in the camera or the plate holder, most likely the camera as its old as heck. A good start though and i absolutely love this format. Hope to get the light leaks sealed up this weekend and have another crack next week. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170825/24c055968b4cb68be7863ce3cc1b5d49.jpg

I took this several years ago -- printed it about a couple weeks ago. Not a perfect print...I was testing new negatives and getting familar with a new darkroom space for carbon printing.

It is a retake of a prior image at the same tree. For comparison I have included the earlier image, but it is a lowly 8x10 platinum print. I use the single transfer carbon printing process -- the image is reversed.

7x17 from 14x17 X-ray film cut down. Probably developed in D-76...it has been awhile. The print is much sharper than my reproduction here...but a little softer than carbon prints I get with conventional films. Likely due to being a double-sided emulsion.

Having seen only a few carbon prints I'll bet the tree trunk looks 3 dimensional !!

Thanks,

Shot stopped down (probably f45) with the 355mm G Claron. The tree trunk and clear rocks are super sharp.

I think the glow comes from the angle of the sun (overhead, slightly behind) hitting the myriad patches of spray/splash.

I'll second Colin's assessment...such great work! Steve...you've got such a range of work - from urban (love the wall art!), to local and southwest landscapes, to more "personal" work - all seen and done so well. My personal favorite might be Garrapata Beach - but then I'm currently a bit biased towards surf related images.

Lachlan...I love your handling of waterfalls. Would love to see these prints up close.

I've seen a bit of work in this very broad format...enough to know that I would have some real challenges in making good use of this aspect ratio. But maybe I'll give it a try sometime!

Thank you Mark for your kind comments. Some of my work is on exhibit at the Lyman Allyn Museum in New London CT thru August 19th. I’ll have a dozen prints in a Large Format Exhibition at Camera Commons immediately following the Lyman show with an Artist Reception on September 30th in Dover, New Hampshire and I am in talks with the Rhode Island Photographic Arts Gallery for a future show. Thanks again for your interest in my work.

These two images will conclude my 7x17" imagery for 2018. I was quite happy with the 1st one I took in 2015, I returned the next winter for more interesting ice patterns, the temperature dropped overnight to minus 10 or more and the fast moving Mattabassett Creek froze solid. With 6 or more layers of clothing on I was commited to making a photograph in 2016 and the result is shown in the bottom image.
