As the exhibit title says, the exhibit is of Daguerreotypes. Daguerreotypes are very different from tintypes.
There are similarities: both had their heyday during the 19th century, and both were positive processes directly exposed in the camera. Daguerreotypes are made by exposing a sliver-plated copper sheet, then fuming with mercury. Tintypes were an adaption of the wet-plate collodion process. Most photographers will judge the daguerrotype process to make higher quality images. The tintype process rapidly supplanted
daguerrotypes because tintypes are much easier and cheaper to make. (Sound familiar?)

The exhibit is at the International Center of Photography in NYC until September 4th, then the Eastman House in Rochester, and in 2006 it will be at the Addison Gallery in Andover, MA.
