Haven't been much available lately. On Dec. 22, I slipped on the ice, fractured 2 vertebrae in my neck, separated another and suffered a spinal cord compression. I was fully paralyzed for a full hour and rushed into surgery at Albany Medical. Two weeks later...I have my legs back. Can't use hands much. I type 1 finger at a time. But I will be back. In the meantime, I will just follow along.

That's pretty scary! I'm glad that the full paralysis quickly went away. I had major back surgery years ago so I assume you are in for a long recovery. My surgery was in December also. At least sitting around in the winter months is better then sitting around in warmer weather. I wish you well and a speedy recovery!

Wow Michael! Glad you have your legs back. I am hoping for a swift recovery and a good physical therapist for you!!
So sorry, but great to hear you are getting better!
Ouch. Do what they tell ya for therapy, be intentional about recovery, etc.. I've had much less than that (badly bulged a couple of discs) and it was a rough time.
Hi Michael,
So sorry to hear of your unfortunate accident. Sounds like a terrible spill, but glad to hear you're improving.
Please keep in touch even if you can only type with one finger for now. We want to know how you're doing and to have your participation. Not only that, your fellow members will provide all the mothering you need !

Good heavens, Michael! That is a serious and scary injury. (I had less from slipping on ice and getting a subdural hemorrhage with subsequent difficulty in walking and left-side neuropathy.) I dearly wish you a good recovery, and don't forget to ask your friends here for help, please. Count me in for help.
Best,
Jac Stafford

Here is a nice turn of events. My employer has provided me with Dragon speak software which allows me to dictate into all of my applications. Who needs hands? maybe I'll be able to nag you guys after all.
Yikes Michael - that is some injury but I am glad to hear that you are on your way to recovery. Wish you good luck and hope that you'll be getting back to your norm soon.

I tried Dragon twice some years ago. Not yet Prime Time back then.
Let us know how well it works now.
And get well soon!

I did find that I had to go through three sessions of training to get it working fairly well. Once I did that, and word that I had to insert punctuation marks, it works slicker than bat she had.
except it doesn't like bad words. Like bat shipped. Comes up with something different each time.

Thanks, Gary. My legs are coming back, slowly but surely. Yesterday, my wife and I walked down to the first pond. Hands are another story. They don't seem to want to come back. I have some flexibility in the wrist and fingers, but the only sensation is a numb tingling. I was able to use my Nikon 750 the other day, but it's weird having to look to see when your finger is on the shutter release. I've become a real fan of DragonSpeak.

Hi Michael,
That sounds like a nasty fall especially before Christmas (I know how that feels), but you certainly sound upbeat and that will be a great help if you can continue that outlook over the coming months.
On the 18th December 2015 I broke several vertebrae, ribs, sternum, collarbone and other injuries and it does take time to get back up to speed where you can function with some independance.
I still have issues and experience numbness which comes and goes in my fingers/hand and I'm still awaiting to see new specialists, so keep positive during your recovery as it could take some time.... it does sounds good that you're up and walking and trying to get some hands on with a camera.
All the best and hopefully with everyday you will progress a little further.
Jason
