Guess the real question is which side is top? I have several wood lens boards. Each has a slight bevel on one edge. I'm wondering if the side with the bevel is the top edge or the bottom. Bill Barber

In my experience, it is the bottom. This allows you to tip the board in from the bottom of the opening without binding.

Usually the bottom, Bill.

Usually the bottom, Bill.
Specifically the rear (inner) edge of the bottom.

For Deardorff, the beveled edge is the top, as the stationary cleat is at the top, and the sliding lock(or turnbuttons on OS cameras) are at the bottom.

If there is a bevel at each end, then it really doesn't matter, does it!

CORRECT ! It really does depend on the camera and style of lensboard mounting hardware.

The exception would be cameras that the board is inserted from the bottom, into the spring'ed top, and the board is pushed down... These have the bevel on the top edge that allows the board to tilt there during insertion/removal... The bevel goes where the board tilts, allowing clearance...
