Thank you ! As with any lens, the background distance/complexity/detail/busyness is important to consider. A bad background can bite you with a soft focus or petzval just as easily. Practice almost makes perfect.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAjyYixKXm8 is how I have a speed graphic shutter on my 8x10 (so I can shoot 400 speed film in daylight wide open). You can get good tones with many films with experience, but I'm most experienced with tmy2, so I know how to use the film. Weather was gray flat light.

My daughter is experienced in posing for my camera and has done it all her life. Key to keeping kids in focus is to have them not move their feet once you get the pose. They always want to move their feet unconsciously and it will make them step out of focus. Have a helper coach the child not to move their feet while you work with the film holders, cock the shutter, etc... After a meal is good too, if they are hungry, they get impatient. The sigmar lens is slightly soft and is sort of a magic bullet piece of equipment; an imperfect triplet, uncoated and big and nothing special for contrast.

It certainly takes some "ain't care" to not be bothered by the attention a LF shoot creates! Great results.

Here's one more from my other shoot with the lupines. A friend of our daughters'. Same 8x10 setup and process. She is not as experienced as my girls at being photographed, so it required some extra effort posing but everyone is pleased by the results.

What anamorphic lens did you used? I want to try anamorphic in 4x5.
For what I read I can use the anamorphic element of some projector lenses on top of a normal 4x5 lens.

Yes, this is from 2 weeks ago, but I developed this neg tonight. Delta 100, 8X10 Imagon 360, holes open 7.7, Packard shutter. Scanned in color Straight out the scanner. No PS. This is perhaps the best of the 10 negs shot. 18 min gas burst Rodinol 1/100.

I will concentrate on enlarging it soon.

Randy, I agree this is the best from (I think?) the 3 images you posted. Personally I think this is so due to her expression, the composition (centered and not off to the side as in the other 2 images from Sept.) and due to being a bit backed out and less "claustrophobic" as in the others, giving her outfit a bit more space and interest. Just my opinion of course - and all three of these reasons have of course nothing to do with the lens used or whatnot but I do like the softness and glow here as presented. Good stuff.

Also I haven't commented lately but I thought I'd mention that jp's images from a couple pages ago were, as usual, phenomenal, and I also liked the forced DOF from voltrader66's image of the two musicians.

I'm guessing he's relying on a flash/strobe to provide all of the useful light in the scene.

In studio with continuous lighting, exposures are around 1 to 1/2 second, perfectly manageable using a dark slide as shutter. Outdoor is a different story...

I was suppose to have a shoot last week but the girl had to cancel. We were going to try using my 8.25" JMI Barrel lens with my strobes.

My wife sat in for me and we got two photos. Unfortunately she looks surprised in both of them and would kill me if I posted them. We set up the shot, turned out all the lights, counted to 3 and triggered the strobe by hand. It worked great

After we switched to my lens in shutter and tried out the wireless flash trigger with it. That worked great too. Not my best photo but I am happy that it worked like it should

Yup - in studio with my trusty Calumet/Bowens strobes

with big brass lenses w/o a shutter - I use a hat - remove hat/hit flash button/replace hat

Thanks Randy - it was a rather basic clamshell lighting with an octobox in front and below and one honeycombed snoot light in front and above - to avoid light spilling to the black seamless. Too bad that the forum compression seems to take away all that hi res and sharpness...

I decided to play a bit with high contrast lighting and "character" portraits. D loves reading, and that book is actually HUGE - album of DaVinci's work, i got it some time ago ;)
Next one will be posted in November thread , i guess - got some really cool ones of my father-in-law, just need to process film.

Never seen a Leitz Hektor used on a LF camera, did it take much to fit it and get it to cover the 4x5?
It covers infinity with a little vignette, no vignetting at closer distances. It was quite ease to mount on a diy wooden lensboard. It is possible ti remove the vignetting by trimming the end of the lens barrel.

There was a few zombie walks that took place on Saturday, October 29th here in Toronto. I opted to hit the St Clair zombie walk that stretched from Bathurst to Lansdowne Ave. I caught up with the dead at Earlscourt Park, set up and shot 18 portraits over the course of about 35 minutes.

Film: Film: Ilford Multigrade IV RC Paper, preflashed
Exposure: ISO 6, f5.6, 1/60 second, metered at 1/12, lit with Elinchrom Ranger Quadra in deep octa (no diffusers)
Movements: 1/2 front fall
