Will a Copal 3 shutter mount OK on a Deardorff board for a 5x7/4x5?
Have an excellent wood board if it will work OK and hold steady. If not I'll get a metal board.

Looking at getting a 300mm f/5.6 to use on it.

I've used an f 5.6 300mm on a 5 x 7 Agfa/Ansco with no problems - the lens board shouldn't be an issue, but the weight of the lens might tip the front standard a bit if it isn't reasonably sturdy. Wood vs metal for the board itself won't be as much of a concern as the sturdiness of the front standard.

Of course why wouldn't it?

I'd be looking at getting a 12" Dagor!

My Uncle really needs the f/5.6 for the light to focus. I've got the lens for him and he'll be selling a 300 f/9 Nikkor M as a result after we get the newer and much heavier 300 mounted.

The size & weight were the concern as the lens boards are not that big for the 5x7/4x5 Deardorffs. On the 8x10 board it would be no problem.

Thanks for the information.

Can u really see a brightness difference between f5.6 and f6.8? I have a 300 Sironar N and always use the Dagor! I've got 7 Copal 3 lenses on V5 boards. Only 24 & 30" Artars on V8 boards.
