Would a 90mm Copal 0 Lens have full coverage on a Chamonix 4x5 with universal bellows or would I be better looking for a Copal 1 lens

Coverage depends on the lens design, not the shutter size, generally. What 90mm lens are you referring to? Most 90mm lenses cover 4x5...

Isn't the only 90mm in copal 1 the Grandagon 90/4.5? This lens does have larger coverage than most of the F/8 lenses, but off the top of my head about the same coverage as the super angulon 90/5.6, fuji 90/5.6 and the Nikon 90/4.5, all of which are in copal 0 shutters.

Actually I think there might also be something like a very compact 90mm Geronar out there in a non-standard copal 1 shutter?

Ah, thanks Dave, so with that, I should be fine with a 90mm in a Copal 0

The one I had seen is a Rodenstock Grandagon 90mm f/6.8 MC Lens in Compur 0 shutter

Hopefully this web site will stay up for some time, but with Ebony closing shop, who knows how long we'll have this great resource: http://www.ebonycamera.com/articles/lenses.html

The 90/6.8 Grandagon-N has a 221mm image circle, which may or may not be the same as the lens you're looking at, but won't be very different. You need at least 153mm to just cover 4x5, more will allow movements, 221mm is very good for a 90mm lens.

I have a grandagon 90/6.8, I don't think you'll be disappointed with it Ian.

Thanks Ken, it has taken me weeks of research to finally pull the trigger on this purchase, I am apprehensive but at the same time excited if you know what I mean

If it is in a Compur shutter then it is a few decades old, personally I preferred the Compur over the Copal but since Prontor Werke and the Zeiss group decided to stop making shutters so long ago that should you need Compur parts they may be hard to find and expensive.

I have used 4x5 cameras with Super Angulon 90/f8, Grandagon 90/f6.8, Fujinon 90/f8, and Angulon 90/6.8. The Angulon barely covered 4x5, and had to be compromise-focussed and used at f/22. Faster versions of theses lenses have slightly more coverage, but are also noticeably larger, heavier and more expensive. The Nikon 90/f8 has an unusually glowing reputation, so they are harder to find on the used market. I've never tried one. I have a 120/f8 Nikon (same design) and it is very nice, though pretty heavy.

Most, or perhaps all, of the 90mm f/8 lens similar in design to the Super Angulon used Copal or Compur 0 shutters. They were specifically designed to allow considerable adjustment with 4x5 cameras.
