View Full Version : Schneider 90mm f/8 Super Angulon - measurements?

Was wondering if someone who has one of these could measure the diameter of the rear lens cell barrel, the rear most part, not the part that screws into the shutter. Not sure if I read the Schneider page correctly but it seemed to be saying 57mm.
Also please measure the depth of the rear cell, from the back of the shutter to the end of the cell.

Thanks

Which version - late-model multicoated, or earlier? I think there are at least two configurations (cell dimensions, FFD, etc.), with slightly different specifications.

Rats, I don't know. I just remembered that there was an f/8 and f/5.6 version. I figured they would have different measurements. I guess the older version because most likely I will not be able to afford the newer version.

I have the older f8 version and I'll measure it when I get home if no one chimes in by then.

Just dug up some some Schneider Super-Angulon literature of several vintages going back to 1967. Turns out the rear cell diameter spec for the 90mm f/8 has remained constant at 57 mm. Unfortunately, only the latest of these data sheets (1995) has a spec for the lens-seat-to-lens-rear distance, which it indicates as 32.3 mm in Copal 0, 32.7 mm in Compur 0, and 32.6 mm in Prontor Pro 01S. Hopefully Chris or someone else can fill in the rear distance for an older SA type.

From my bookmarks this looks to be what you need to see (it's in German but I think the dimensions are clear enough):

https://web.archive.org/web/20060321064356/http://www.schneiderkreuznach.com/archiv/pdf/an_su_1970.pdf

Scroll down to the bottom of the page.

I read diameter at rear barrel to be 57mm, and shutter to rear face to be 99.4 - 66.3 = 33.1mm

I think Jerry's right with that 33.1 mm - I had missed the (S'm - S'F') combination. So different from the later model, but by an amount that will be negligible for most purposes.

Hi,

Does anybody know the (approximate) overall length of this lens?

Thank you, kind regards!

Nacho, the list has a link to the catalogs you should consult. See the sticky in the lenses section.

Hi Dan,

Thank you for your message : )!!!

I am trying to find out if it will fold up inside a field camera.

Kind regards,

Ig

Ig Nacio - I have a Caltar-W II 90mm F8 in hand, which I believe to be the same lens rebranded, and it is exactly 80mm long from front to back, 85mm if you include a push-on plastic cap front and back.

Edited to say that leaving it in place in a folded Intrepid 4x5 is out of the question.
