Bought a 5.9” No. 5 R D Gray Extreme angle Periscope lens for my 11x14 little while back. Took a big chance, the seller was from overseas and lens specs vague. A brass lens with a dial aperture, maximum aperture of f/14. Had S K Grimes mount it into a No. 3 Copal. I was truly amazed that the were able to perform this operation.

Closest reference I've found was in the vade mecum: Montauk Camera Co. Gray's Extreme Angle Stigmatic for 90-95 degrees. f/11 4.5, 5.375, 6.5 in. This seems to be a Portable RR. It was suggested to use 5.375in for 10x8in (at small apertures).

Stop the lens down all the way and image actually covers the 11x14 inch format with movements! But the image quality and sharpness approaching the corners quickly degrades past 8x10 coverage. But I am willing to accept that.... call it the vintage look.

Anyone have any into on this optic?

Think it closely compares in coverage to the Rodenstock Pantagonal but with less sharpness in the corners, but have never held a Pantagonal.

Would appreciate any info on this optic.

Thanks

Greg
