Dear folks, I am venturing into 11x14 and 12x20 formats and have a coverage question on the Goerz Dagor lenses. I know these would cover 11x14 and 12x20 format respectively, but how much shift do we have at infinity focus? Responses much appreciated. Jim

I don't believe that the two lenses could cover 12x20in.
At least 16in dagor on my opinion~

Dagors have a very wide field of view. The 14" should cover, at least stopped down. If by "shift" you mean focus shift, that's hard to say. I would focus at close to the taking aperture, to compensate for any there might be. 1940 Goerz catalog (http://www.cameraeccentric.com/html/info/goerz_1.html):

11x14 will be no problem for both the 12" and 14" Dagors. Some 14" Dagors cover 12x20, some don't. Supposedly the older ones throw larger circles. It's unusual for a 12" Dagor to cover 12x20, but apparently there are some out there that do. A 16.5" Dagor would be a sure thing.

Keep the 355 G-Claron in mind as a modern alternative. Plenty of coverage for both 11x14 and 12x20.

Another modern alternative would be an f9 Nikon 300M

Not for ULF. The Nikon 300M doesn't even come close.

Thanks for the responses! I have several modern lenses that cover at least 11x14 or both formats, 300 Nikkor M, 305 G-Claron, 355 G-Claron, but local large format friends extoll the Dagors so it makes me wondering about one or two. I will definitely borrow one to try one if there is one near me.

Hi, I have a 12" 6.8 Goertz Dagor in a shutter that has failed. It looks 99% silmilar to this shutter (mine is labeled to go to f64 though.) 242781

Would anyone know the shutter size? I'd like to replace it with something modern.

Thanks

edit: looks like it's an ilex 4 sized shutter, if anyone has info on how to adapt this to a modern shutter please let me know. i did ask SKG and I can't afford what they're asking to perform this.

I'm under the impression of a dialset ilex acme shutter no. 4 has a different lens thread than a more modern ilex no. 4.

The 12" Dagor lenses are often mounted in a Compound III shutter but you have to be careful, it is not clear that your lens will fit to this shutters.
In the time when this lenses were made the threads of the shutters are not standardsized.
To take care to use the full optical quality it is necessary to measure your shutter first, the treads and the length of it.
The sizes of the Compound shutter are to find in the www to compare it.
