Is it possible to get holders that take 9x12cm film yet are the same external dimensions as a 4x5 film holder?
This may sound a rather stupid question at first but I am exploring using X-ray film, which I can get in 9x12cm size.
I thought that such a thing might exist to use a imported 4x5 camera in Europe where 9x12cm was easier to find.

Yes you can. Pretty much all modern standard 4x5 and 9x12 holders are the same exact size (apart from the film holders inside of course). I use Fidelity Elite holders in 9x12 and 4x5 size all the time. All of my B&W work is done in 9x12 and colour work in 4x5. This means that I can easily separate holders in the field (using only single emulsion of both) and also I enjoy the 9x12 proportions more then 4x5. But since colour is not available in 9x12 and there's no scanner holders (at least I don't have any) for that size, I shoot colour in 4x5. Black and white film I enlarge in wet darkroom so those "limitations" don't apply :)

Neil, why not cut down 8x10 xray film to 4x5? It allows you to use regular 4x5 which are much easier to find than 9x12 holders and the cost of film is still low (or even lower) this way.

In europe it's easier to find x-ray film in sizes as 9x12 / 18x24 / etc

Really? I'm in Europe but haven't had much luck locating local sources for xray film at a more reasonable cost than having it shipped from the US.

BEMA supply much xray film, though not 8*10, and only to Austria and Germany. I may have to have some sent to my Berlin address and ask the kids there to forward it.

I was looking at sources of X-ray film in the UK and noted the 9x12cm size, which is why I asked about the holders.

For some reason I would be too scared to order x-ray sensitive material from US to Europe due to random high power screening.. There are medical suppliers in eu, but not all sell to private individuals. I need to check where my last patch came..
