I don't know whats available in your neck of the woods, nor how cheap nor soft of an image you're after. or do I know which focal length you want.
There are lots of great old 8x10 lenses out there.
There are certainly less costly examples, but sometimes you can find a good deal on:
14" Commercial Ektar
10" 250mm Wide Field Ektar
12" Wollensak Velostigmat
Wollensak 1A Triple Convertible
375mm Ilex Paragon/Acugon
12" Goerz Dagor
Turner Reich Triple Convertible
All are top notch and very capable.

If a "normal" focal length would satisfy you then look at a 12" or 300mm lens. They tend to run a little cheaper than the 14" and longer focal lengths.

Jock Sturges used a 250mm f/6.7 lens for his famous early portraits. I bought mine for $300 but I have seen them sell lately around the $200 mark. They are great for landscape too. You do want the early single coated 6.7 version which has coverage for 8x10.

I have a Convertible 300mm/500mm Symmar for sale @ $250US. Is 300mm f5.6 normally, or 500mm f12 with just the rear group:http://www.largeformatphotography.info/forum/showthread.php?128021-FS-300mm-500mm-Sinar-Convertible-Symmar-in-Compound-Shutter

No decent 12" dagor is going to be found in the "cheap" category. In fact, the asking prices nowadays seem obscene. If you want something modern, many general
purpose plastmats are abundant and selling cheap. Why? Because jillions were once used in studios and nobody cared that they weighed a ton apiece in longer
focal lengths. Nowadays everybody seems to be want lightweight lenses for the sake of portability. I'd aim at what you really want rather than merely cheap, because all kinds of excellent lenses are affordable these days, provided you don't get suckered into paying more than you need to for some "cult" lens, which might prove no better than a dozen cheaper options.

Oh, boy, a new idea!

Peter, what identifying marks are on your f/9 Apo-Dagor? I ask because plain vanilla Dagors came in two speeds, f/6.8 and f/7.7 and Wide Angle Dagors came in f/8 and f/9.

Would your trophy be one of these:
