Can anybody please tell me the exact diameter of the "stabilising rods" that fit between the front and rear standards of a Norma. It would probably be a metric size, sorry all you traditionalists (me included)?
Pete.

I don't have them, but maybe you could query SINAR. According to my early 70s catalog, the part numbers for the set of 4 rods and connecting clamps that screw into the top of the standards' support posts are:

4 Stabilizing Rods = "x 1870"
4 Connecting Clamps = "x 1875"

You might also query Glennview who manufactured his own rods that fit the original Sinar Connecting Clamps he has. He should be able to tell you the rod diameters and thread sizes.

His website (scroll to the very end for contact info) :

Pete I have a 4x5 Norma and a vernier so I'll be happy to measure mine for you. I'll try to do this tonight and post back here.

Pete I just tried but turns out the battery in my vernier is dead. Hoping that someone else can help soon but if not, i'll try to get a battery and check again for you.

Pali,
Many thanks, all I need to do now is see a mate who has an engineering factory. I'll bet he has none in stock but at least he'll point me in the right direction.
Pete.

Glad I could help Pete.

I am not sure that Pali measured what you asked for. The image shows measurement of the front standard, not the "stabilising rods." These are not the same thing, although it is possible that they have the same width. I have seen the "stabilising rods" sold on ebay (rarely) and through Glennview.

Check out Fig. 34 in the SINAR Norma Instruction Manual:

http://www.cameraeccentric.com/html/info/sinar_1.html

It shows the stabilizing rods also being used for extreme rise of the front standard, so Pali's measurements should be valid.

Thanks Jerry, it was the stabilising rods (shown in the picture) that I was asking about.
Pete.

I've got eight of the original red Sinar Norma stabilizing rods.
But after thirty+ years I'm still looking for the original Norma clamps.
You will need four of them to make it work.

That's the hard part. :p
