355 G Claron is not a direct fit into a Copal 3, thread opening in the shutter is larger that the threads of the cells. This is a pristine lens, 62mm filter size... Guessing I will need to have it machined to fit this shutter??

Go here http://www.skgrimes.com/products/new-copal-shutters/standardcopals to see tube diameters for #3 and #3S shutters. Also see http://www.suaudeau.eu/memo/pratique/Les_obturateurs_centraux.html. Measure the cells across the threads and tell us their diameters.

Machining the cells will make them smaller, not larger. You'll needed threaded bushings to fit them in a shutter.

SK Grimes can also do the work for you... I would just have them do it, very good reputation.

Go with SK Grimes. They've mounted 4 barrel lenses in shutters for me, and I was totally satisfied with their work, actually more than satisfied. They mounted a 5.9" f/ RD Gray Extreme Angle Periscope lens in a Copal shutter for me and still am amazed at what they did... the optics are greatly recessed into the shutter which I'm sure required some very precise machining. I feel their prices were dead on for the quality of work they did.

I know, that is where I would send it for machine work, Steve Grimes did work for me years ago...he did nice work.

The 305 G Claron screwed right into a Copal 1 real nice, not so fortunate with the 355. I will give Grimes a call.
Anyone used a 305 G Claron on 7x17?

305mm G Claron's are fine on 7x17".

That is good to hear, is it somewhat wide on 7x17? I realize that this is a very different format than what I am used to.. Just trying to get a feel for the perspective it will draw.
Trying to remember what that camera traditionally used as a focal length back in the day, saw it printed somewhere..

Correct. Somewhat wide.

The really wides are the 240mm and lower.

Will the G Claron 240 cover 7x17?
Steve

No.

You'll need to look for the Computar/Grahic Kowa series.

Do a search here for 7x17" lenses. There is a heap of good information.

Nor will the 270mm Claron.

What about 14x17?

What about 14x17?

I don't know, but I suspect not.

A Computar 305mm should, though.
