Hi,

I would enjoy even more if you could inform the book author's name - as seems the name's book is "The Book of Photography"

Incredible, never tough a print could be developed that size,

Cheers,

Renato

Of course. The author (or editor) was Paul Hasluck. I have the 1907 edition.

The last page shows "retouching the enlargement " Holy cow that must be some big enlarger. I once thought about building something like this to develop movie film. I sold the movie camera, problem solved :) For now???

249,836 litres of water used just for the washing, that is an impressive amount of water just for the final wash. The other figures for developer and fixer are interesting as well. Another interesting aspect is that the stop bath, "acetic acid" was applied via a hose, one wouldn't like to be down wind of that operation.

As a person who in the past has physically managed to enlarge single colour prints 1.8m x 6m wide, I find this super fascinating. A real lot of little things go into making things like this possible. The retouching is typical, we used to use small painters brushes along with small cups of touching dyes held in one hand, which we purchased in bulk.

This makes me feel inadequate- I can only print 30 x40 murals these days.
