I bought an enlarger in Japan which is an LPL 7453 with VCCE K&IF module. It's not very old and I was wondering if it's the same model under a different name in the U.S.

I am looking for a color modular that fits on my LPL 7453. I believe if the color modular is a 7453 or 7454, it will fit on my head but if it's a 7451, it's too small.

I have been looking at sites with photos of the LPL 4550-XLG VCCE and LPL 4500II VCCE , and it looks exactly the same as my LPL 7453.

Any insight would be appreciated.

I have an LPL 4500-II dichroic enlarger. It is the same as the LPL 7451. I believe that the LPL 4550 is the same as the LPL 7454.

I have the Nippon Camera "Camera Nenkan" for 1995, 1997 and 2003, but I cannot find a listing for the LPL 7453 in any of these volumes. However, the filtration modules are interchangeable between the 4500-II and 4550 enlargers here in the US, and I believe that the modules should be interchangeable between all other 7450-series enlargers as well.

On the LPL web site in Japan http://www.lpl-web.co.jp), there is a page showing accessories for the LPL 7454 enlarger, including a picture of the filtration modules. Does your VCCE module look like the one in that picture?

This is the one I have if you can see it.

On my enlarger head, it says K&IF. The one that LPL is selling is the 7454 but the one I have is the 7453. It's probably identical. However, when I called the LPL customer service center, they told me that a 7454 will fit onto my 7453 but not the 7451 because the colum size if different ..they said something like that. When I inquired about a 7452..the conversation died.
I don't know if there is a 7452, but I still had to ask.

There may be some confusion with the LPL customer service center. It may be possible that the *enlarger head* from the 7454 will not fit on the 7451, because they do use different columns. But I'm not sure why the *filtration module* wouldn't fit - I think these have been standard all along, and here in the US, the filtration modules can be exchanged between the 4500II and the 4550 even though the column is different. So I think that if you already have the VCCE module listed as L3665-10 on the LPL website, then the L3684-10 color module should fit as well.

But to be sure, you should probably call LPL again and ask the specific question of whether the L3684-10 color module will fit in your 7453 head.

oohhh, yes, that makes sense. I wish there was a site where we could check domestic and overseas models. It's so confusing and we end up finding a match by looking at a photo of the item instead which is frustrating.
