Linhof Kardan Bi Stardard to Rail Mount Screws

I recently purchased a Linhof Kadan bi in excellent condition except for one problem: The screws for mounting and tightening the standards to the rail will not clamp down enough to hold the standards tight. One screw free wheels in place and the other turns very hard and never quite clamps the standard tight. Should i just send it off to someone like SK Grimes for repair or has anyone run into this problem and have an alternative suggestion. Thanks for any help.
