Is the Chamonix able to hold the Nikkor-sw 90mm 4.5 steady enough with movements? I've read a lot of conflicting posts regarding the 90mm performance on wooden field cameras, does anyone have experience with this combo?

(And if you consider the 90 4.5 too big/heavy for a wood field camera, what 90 would you suggest?)

Thanks,

Horace

I have both the 90mm f/4.5 and the 90mm f/8 Nikkor-SW lenses. The larger f/4.5 is fine on my Chamonix 4x5, but it's heavy for a field lens. For outdoor work in good light, the f/8 version is the better choice. At low light levels, the f/8 is very dim and seeing the edges of the frame can be nearly impossible. The performance of the f/8 is astounding--one of the sharpest lenses I've ever used. The f/4.5 is a very good performer, but second to the f/8 version.

hmmmm.

Horace, I use the 4.5 on my chamonix and it's just fine.
I prefer it over the 90mm 6.8 grandagon I had prior to this. And I'd rather have the 4.5 as I shoot in good light often before/after sunset.

I use that lens on my Chamonix 045n because I shoot at night. It works well enough for me. It is heavy though.
